UPSC EXAM PATTERN

UPSC exams consists of 3 stages exams ie:

  Preliminary exam (MCQ BASED) (2 papers)

      Paper 1: General Studies  200 Marks 

      Paper 2:  CSAT  200 Marks ( CSAT is only qualifying paper)

 To qualify the preliminary exam and write the main exam a candidate need to score around 50% in general studies paper.

MAINS EXAM(DESCRIPTIVE PAPERS)

1.General English        300 marks (qualifying paper)

2.Indian Language      300 marks (qualifying paper)

3.General Studies        Paper I    250 marks (History,Art and Culture and Geography)

4.General Studies        Paper II   250 marks (polity,governance and international relations)

5.General Studies        Paper III  250 marks (economy,disaster management and science &tech)

6.General Studies        Paper IV  250 marks (ethics )

7.Essay                        Paper V   250 marks 

8.Optional                    Paper I    250 marks 

                                     Paper II   250 marks 

Total marks for  mains     1750 

 

INTERVIEW                     275 MARKS 

NOTE: Selection is based on the total marks obtained in mains and interview combined together.
